An edges gilt book is defined as any book in which its pages have been finished with golden gilt (gilt) on all four edges – this includes the top, fore-edge, and foot of the book. These types of books tend to be expensive and are frequently displayed.

An edges gilt book is any book where professional bookbinders have gilded all sides of its pages to create an expensive-looking volume. All edges of gilt books make great gifts and serve as decorative displays within homes and offices.

All edges gilt books can be beautiful works of art, yet challenging to care for properly. Their delicate gilding can quickly become scratched or damaged. Therefore, all edges of gilt books must be handled carefully and stored away from moisture or direct sunlight to maintain their beauty and avoid potential damage.

All Edges are Gilt (AEG) is a term used in bookbinding to refer to books with all three outside edges gilded – the top, fore-edge, and bottom – covered with gold leaf. Edge Gilding machines apply this process directly onto each of these three edges.

Having all edges gilt serves the dual purposes of protecting text blocks from wear and tear and giving books a more luxurious aesthetic. While once reserved only for rare and expensive books, edge gilding has become widespread across various books, such as mass-market paperbacks and limited edition fine press editions.

These processes are also used for books requiring high quality, durability, and beauty – such as special edition books that will be displayed prominently or those intended as gifts.

His family owned a small bookstore throughout his early childhood, and he would spend weekends flipping through book after book, always sure to read the ones that looked the most interesting. Not much has changed since then, except now some of those interesting books he picks off the shelf were designed by his company!
