Dog Man is a comedic graphic novel series written by famous American cartoonist, Dav Pilkey. This children’s book series is about a crime-fighting hero that is part dog, part man.
The book series includes ten books, with the last two books yet to be released in spring this year, and the other in 2021.
Who Is Dav Pilkey?
Born on March 4, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dav Pilkey was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD as a child. In the second grade, Dave was so disruptive in all of his classes that his teachers always made him sit out in the hall every single day.
Fortunately, Pilkey loved to make up and write his own stories, so he always spends his time in his sit-outs, creating his own comic books.
Pilkey was able to complete a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teachers always told him that he would never make it in life making silly comic books. Luckily, he didn’t listen to them.
Pilkey submitted his book, World War Won, to an international competition for student authors. He was able to win in his age category. Because of the award, the book was published in 1987.
Pilkey attended Kent State University. After relocating to Washington, he met his wife, so usually, the owner of his favorite Japanese restaurant and a professional musician. They started dating in early 2005 and got married later that year.
Pilkey didn’t write for a few years to take care of his terminally ill father. However, he partnered with Scholastic in 2009 to publish four books. He released The Adventures of Ook and Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen From the Future in 2010, followed by Super Diaper Baby 2: Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, which got published in 2011.
Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Re-turn of Tippy Tinkletrousers was released in 2012, and Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers was released in 2013.
To date, his Captain Underpants series has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 28 languages. His latest creation, the Dog Man series, now sold more than 30 million copies in print internationally and has been translated into more than 21 languages.
Pilkey and his wife live in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
