Here is the complete list of books published by Clive Cussler, a well-known American underwater explorer, and adventure novelist.

His thriller novels featuring fictional character Dirk Pitt, have reached The New York Times fiction best-seller list over 20 times.

Who Is Clive Cussler?

Born on July 15, 1931, in Aurora, Illinois, Clive Russler worked for the United States Air Force after two years in Pasadena City College during the Korean War. During his service in the military, he was promoted as a sergeant and worked as a flight engineer and aircraft mechanic for the Military Air Transport Service (MATS).

After getting discharged, Russler worked for two of the nation’s most distinguished advertising agencies as a copywriter and a creative director. In line with his job, Cussler produced television and radio commercials, with some of them even winning international awards such as an award at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

His literary career sparked in 1965 when his wife Barbara would work late nights at their local police department. One night after tucking his children to sleep, he had no one to talk to, so he started writing.

His career as an author grew in popularity with his Dirk Pitt thriller novels. These books of Clive Cussler were usually based on alternate history perspectives, such as “What if Abraham Lincoln wasn’t assassinated, but kidnapped?” or “What if Atlantis was real?”

When Cussler released his third Dirk Pitt novel, Raise the Titanic, it established the writer’s sparkling reputation and set up the pattern that subsequent Pitt novels would follow: a mix of high technology and high adventure, usually involving sunken treasure, beautiful women, lost ships, and megalomaniacal villains.

Aside from writing, Cussler is also an internationally recognized authority on shipwrecks and the founder of the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA). This 501C3 non-profit organization devotes itself to preserving the naval history and American maritime.

He, along with his crew of NUMA volunteers and marine experts have discovered over 60 0 historically significant underwater wreck sites, such as the Cumberland, which was sunk by the famous ironclad; the first submarine to sink a ship in battle, the Confederacy’s Hunley, and its victim, the Union’sHousatonic.

Cussler was married to his wife, Barbara Knight, for over 44 years. They have three children and two grandchildren. Regrettably, Barbara passed away in January 2003.

For decades, Clive Cussler’s real-life NUMA®, the National Underwater and Marine Agency, has scoured rivers and seas in search of lost ships of historic significance. His teams have been inundated by tidal waves and beset by obstacles—both human and natural—but the results, and the stories behind them, have been dramatic. In this follow-up to their bestselling first account, The Sea Hunters, Cussler and colleague Craig Dirgo provide another extraordinary narrative of their true seagoing—and land—adventures, including their searches for the famous ghost ship Mary Celeste, found floating off the Azores in 1874 with no one on board; the Carpathia, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors and was itself lost to U-boats six years later; and L’Oiseau Blanc, the airplane that almost beat The Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic before disappearing in the Maine woods. All these, plus steamboats, ironclads, a seventeenth century flagship, a certain famous PT boat, and even a dirigible, are tantalizing targets as Cussler proves again that truth can be “at least as fun, and sometimes stranger, than fiction” (Men’s Journal).
