Bristol boards are composed of two sheets of paper glued together with an interleaf of Kraft paper to give strength and rigidity to the board.

Bristol board comes in various thicknesses to meet specific uses.; thicker boards may be utilized for bookbinding to increase durability.

Some bristol boards are used for creating book jackets and dust jackets. Once printed with the cover design of a book, these boards can then be adhered directly onto its outer cover for quick assembly.

Bristol board can also be utilized in the printing process as a printing plate material, transferring images onto paper. To accomplish this process, an image is first printed onto Bristol board before being placed on a printing press for transference onto paper.
