I grew up admiring books. My grandparents owned a small bookstore throughout my early childhood, and I would spend weekends sitting on the floor, flipping through book after book, always sure to read the ones with the best covers.
In design school, all my elective projects were mock book covers. It was my dream to open the front flap of a book and see my name. Little did I know that one day I would have bookshelves of covers to my credit.
I love publishing and book cover design. The idea of someone creating an intellectual body of work that, over the course of several months, becomes a physical object on a bookshelf – to this day still excites me. I don’t mind iPads, but I love the feeling of holding months’ worth of work in my hands, flipping through the pages, and inhaling the smell of freshly-printed ink.
